How Essential Oils changed my academic life

April is by far the most dreaded, but highly anticipated month for any University student. With finals starting literally this Friday, I am insanely stressed. Of course, in between studying and actually taking the exams I am also working. I am so lucky that I can work for a company that promotes wellness, and it has truly helped me succeed this year at school. Before I started working for Saje, I had nothing to help me cope with the stress that school brought on, well I had food but I tried to stay away from too much of that.

At Saje, the products are made from 100% pure essential oils. Essential oils have been used for thousands of years for their medicinal properties for certain ailments like colds, headaches, pain etc. I have been using a roll on remedy from Saje called "Stress Release" which has been a tremendous help during this hard time. Within 15 minutes of applying the essential oils in Stress Release on my body, I feel so much more calm and as if a weight has been lifted off of my shoulder. It helps suppress anxiety attacks and I wear it in my Aromatherapy necklace almost everyday that I am in classes.

Another product that changed my academic life is one called "Quick Study". If you can study for hours on end without having frequent 10 minute breaks, you my friend have a solid will power. However, I do get distracted quite easily when studying and need all of the help I can get to stay mentally focused. Quick Study is a mental alertness blend that was made from essential oils that traditionally aid with mental focus/alertness. Ever since I have started using Quick Study I have noticed great results. I put quick study on about 15 minutes before I start studying and I retain knowledge a lot quicker and a lot more effectively. Before I actually enter my exam I put Quick Study on again and it makes a world of difference.

I have always been a strong student as I truly enjoy learning each and everyday, however like everyone I am not perfect. I am only human, and I need the power of plants to help me succeed with my academics. Since I have started using essential oils for multiple purposes, I have noticed an overall boost in my academic performance as I am less likely to have random anxiety attacks because of stress release and I am able to retain more knowledge, more quickly, for exams.

I would recommend essential oils to absolutely anyone, it is such a positive life change that has honestly some of the best results.

What is your fav essential oil? Comment below :)

The thing about love

It's been a while since I've posted, and I apologize for that. With it being final exam time, all papers were due last week and I was swamped. But I am glad that I have a few days before I have to really clamp down and study, study, study!

While driving to work today, a song from my past that was on my phone played, a song which I had not heard in quite a long time. This song wasn't just any song, it was a song that was written for me by the love of my life. I was thirteen years old when I met him, he was the sweetest, cutest and funniest guy. Some would say that our relationship was doomed as he lived in England and I live in Canada, but we made it work. In fact, we made it work for seven years until we finally split for good a year ago in May. This past year has been hard for me as I was so used to talking to him everyday, always having him there for me and now I don't have him to talk too anymore. He was my absolute best friend, we told each other everything and we knew absolutely everything about each other. Although our split was amicable, we have not remained in contact as he has moved on. It's not that I only miss having our romantic relationship, but I truly miss our friendship.

I am finding it quite difficult to move on as he is all I really have ever known. Also, something that I think many millennials can relate to is the difficulty of finding someone who wants a relationship and not just sex. Our generation is often referred to as the "hook up" generation. We would rather sleep around and have hook ups or 'friends with benefits' over having a relationship. I am not looking for a super serious relationship, but I am looking for something more committed than being just friends with benefits.

With third year coming to an end and four months of summer break ahead of me, my goal is to put myself back out there. Meet some guys and go on a few dates. I think that before I can do that though, I will need to learn how to cope with the strong feelings that I have for my ex. I will always love him as he will always occupy a piece of my heart, but it is time to move on like he has and find my happily ever after.

Are you experiencing the same thing? Comment below with your suggestions on how to get back into the game after being in a long serious relationship.

Tips to Surviving Procrastination

As a third year university student you would think that I have mastered the art of finishing an essay early, or studying for a longer period of time. Like thousands of other students, I suffer from procrastination. When it comes to absolutely everything else in my life I am always 100% on top of everything making sure I never get behind.

As we all know putting yourself through post-secondary education is tough; with tuition being so high we all have to work full-time in order to pay our way through school. By the time you have spent all day at school and then the evening at your part-time job you are absolutely exhausted -- the last thing you want to do is write an essay or study for an exam.

Below are some tips to help you stay focused, and make sure that you finish your essay well before the deadline, or that you are prepared for your test/exam.

1. Have A Plan

  • Before you start to write your essay, have a plan as to how you want the essay to look like, or how you want to discuss your topic. By making an outline of your essay, you are giving it a structure that will support your essay. It is just like when building a bridge, there is a blueprint before the actual construction of the bridge. The same goes for your essay, your outline acts a blueprint -- mapping out exactly how your essay will look like and what important elements must be there. Once you are done with your outline, you can then proceed to actually writing the essay.
  • Although you don't need an outline for studying, it is still important that you plan out exactly how you want to study for that particular test or exam. Is it beneficial to just re-read lecture notes? Is it more beneficial to write out all of the lecture notes. Are there certain issues or questions that were addressed multiple times throughout the course that would most likely show up on the exam? By having a plan on how to tackle your studying you are setting yourself up for success.

2. Get Rid of Distractions

  • Turn OFF your smartphone. Smartphones are the absolute worst distractions possible, not only are your friends constantly trying to engage in a conversation with you, but you also have all your social media at your fingertips. What was supposed to be a 5 minute smartphone break, turns into an hour, this has happened to me so many times.
  • If you have a loud family like I do, try staying on campus and working in the Quiet Study lounge of your school's library. I find that when I stay home, I have many distractions from my tv, my family, and my dog.
3. Physically write your essay.
  • Instead of using your laptop when writing your essay, I find that when you physically write  using a pen and paper, you get a lot more work done. There are far less distractions.
  • Being able to write an essay using a pen and paper is a skill that is important, especially during exam time. During exams you do not have the luxury of having your laptop handy, you must write the essay using a pen and paper.
4. Breaks
  • It is so important that you give yourself time to relax when studying or writing an essay. When the mind is too stressed you tend to not retain knowledge as well, or writing starts to take a turn for the worse. Breaks are great because your mind has a chance to relax, during this time its best to do something like go for a walk. This allows us to clear our minds, and gets our blood pumping as we were sitting for a couple of hours.
  • If your goal is to study for 6 hours straight, give yourself four, 15-minute breaks. Of course, you can adjust this if you'd like. If you are studying or writing for longer periods of time, always make sure that instead of doing one very large break like a 3 hour break, you do smaller more frequent breaks. By allowing yourself to have one large break, you are more likely to stop studying or writing.
5. Stay healthy!
  • Drink tons of water while studying or writing an essay. The more hydrated we are, the more alert and mentally prepared we are.
  • Make sure that you do not forget to eat, if you are studying or writing on an empty stomach your mind is not 100% alert. Have some healthy snacks ready for when you take your breaks, like fruits and veggies, pita and hummus. The healthier you eat, the better you will feel and the better your studying or writing will go.
  • If you need extra help staying alert, try natural remedies such as the Quick Study Natural Remedy from Saje Natural Wellness It is an essential oil remedy that helps keep your mental focus in check, this has been a great help for me especially this month as I have so much going on.

Introduction

Hello wonderful people!

While sitting on the couch binge watching a random tv show, when I was supposed to be writing an essay, I had another idea to keep my procrastination on continuum. I would start a blog on how one millennial, my semi-interesting self, has been surviving life. I stress the use of the word surviving, as I am at that point in my life where I feel as if I am just simply doing what any person my age would be doing, working tirelessly to make a life for themselves and not truly stopping to smell the roses while along the way.

I've had many conversations with women of different generations (my grandma and my mom) to try and gain some insight on the struggles they went through during this pivotal moment in their life, the early 20's and the twenty-somethings. It's interesting how these stories vary from generation to generation, and how what was a struggle for my grandma, is now something that I do everyday without even having to think about. Time brings about new challenges for each generation that comes its way, the challenges our grandparents or parents had to deal with during their 20's is different than what us millennial's are going through.

This blog will highlight my journey as well as others journey's through life as  millennial's. This blog also hopes to bring to light some of the struggles that our generation faces, and different ways in which we can deal with or cope with those struggles to help us succeed!

I am very excited with the ideas that I have for this blog and I truly hope that experiences from my life and the lives of my friends are stories that you can truly connect with. We all need a little guiding in life, heck, even I need guidance from time to time.

Yours truly,
Trisha
